Winter is over, and the sun is showing higher and higher in the sky. That means higher concentration of the suns ultra violet rays for you.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, effecting more than 3.5 million people each year. As we age, our exposure throughout our lifetime compounds, contributing to earlier signs of aging and skin damage.
Thankfully, the harmful effects of the sun are well know and have been studied for years. The Sunscreen Innovation Act is a new law requiring the Food and Drug administration to create an expedited process for the review and approval of over the counter sunscreens. Many of the products we offer here at the Spa also offer additional UV protection.
Studies have shown that sun damage occurs even if you are not in the visual line of the sun. Cells that have been direct contact with the sunlight are actually reacting as if you are still being directing exposed.
An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Some measures to take before sun exposure include: Wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher before going out into the sun. Sunscreen is one of the best preventative treatments for sun damage. You can also where long sleeves and a wide brimmed hat.
For treatment after exposure to the sun, try some of the products we carry at the spa. You can also apply vitamin E at night or another hydrating skin moisturizer.
